Raaga Taala Retreat 2027 & The Soul India Tour 2027

The 10th edition of Raaga Taala Retreat will be held from February 13th to 19th, 2027, at Fort Chanwa—an 18th-century fort carved from the region’s iconic red sandstone, which stands as a magnificent example of Rajasthani heritage. This heritage property is renowned for its intricate architecture, featuring ornate lattice work, expansive courtyards, and traditional “jharokhas” that capture the royal essence of Jodhpur. The seven-day retreat focuses on music, dance, yoga, and the rich heritage and culture of India. We have Kathak and Bollywood Dance, Sitar and instrumental music, Tabla and Vocal faculty available. Participants can choose any of these faculties to learn and participate for the entire week, every morning there will be Yoga and meditation classes to start your day in a perfect way. The music/dance classes/workshops will be held every single day apart from the day and time of excursions.

Every afternoon and evening there will be concerts by different artists from India and abroad and a lot of sightseeing to monuments, palaces and local markets in and around Dausa and Jaipur.  We will also have Village safari, sunrise concert at the historical monument and much more….

The cost for seven days of Raaga Taala Retreat is 1250 Euros/1085 Pounds/1460 USD for a double sharing room and 1550 Euros/1340 Pound/1815 USD for a single occupancy room. The package includes your stay at the majestic Fort Chanwa, all meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), yoga/meditation classes, all the music/dance classes/workshops, sightseeing, entries to monuments, Jeep Safari, Camel Safari, Village Safari, local transportation, airport pick up and drop from Jodhpur and 13 plus concerts.

Experience the duality of India’s spirit—where the vibrant folk rhythms of the Thar Desert meet the meditative silence of the Himalayas. This year’s Raaga Taala journey is a carefully composed symphony, beginning with the ancient temple chants and leopard-tracked hills of Rajasthan and culminating in the poetic, snow-dusted valleys of Kashmir.

Itinerary Overview

 Day 1–2: Ranakpur & Jawai Bandh (20th–21st February 2027)

The Rhythm of the Wild & The Sacred

Begin the tour near the breathtaking Ranakpur Jain Temple, a forest of 1,444 uniquely carved marble pillars that resonate with spiritual history. From there, venture into the granite landscapes of Jawai. Here, we witness a rare harmony between the Rabari herdsmen and the wild leopards.  

• Highlight: A sunset safari through the rocky “kopjes” and a quiet evening under the stars, listening to the desert’s natural soundtrack.

 Day 3–4: Deogarh (22nd–23rd February 2027)

The Heritage Heartbeat

Travel to the feudal principality of Deogarh. Stay at the magnificent Deogarh Mahal, where the Mewar history comes alive through frescoes and folk music.

• Highlight: A ride on the Rural Rail, a local 1930s meter-gauge train that winds through the Aravalli hills, offering a rhythmic glimpse into village life. Visit the Anjana Mahadev cave temple for a soulful morning ritual.  

 Day 5–6: Ajmer & Pushkar (24th–25th February 2027)

Devotion in the Air

Journey to the sacred town of Pushkar, built around a holy lake and home to the world’s only Brahma Temple. Experience the spiritual energy of the Evening Aarti at the Varaha Ghat, where bells and chants create a powerful acoustic tapestry.  

• Highlight: A sunrise hike to the Savitri Temple for a panoramic view of the desert and a visit to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, a center of Sufi music and mysticism.  

 Day 7: Mandawa (26th February 2027)

The Open-Air Art Gallery

Head north to the Shekhawati region and the town of Mandawa. Walk through narrow lanes lined with 18th-century havelis (mansions), their walls covered in intricate frescoes that tell stories of trade, mythology, and the British Raj.  

• Highlight: A curated walk through the Snehi Ram Ladia Haveli to see the vibrant pigment-work that has survived centuries.

 Day 8: Delhi to Srinagar (27th February 2027)

Transition to the Valley

We leave the desert heat behind and fly from Delhi to Srinagar, the “Venice of the East.” Check into a luxury Houseboat on Dal Lake, where the gentle lapping of water against the cedar wood provides a serene backdrop for the next phase of our journey.

 Day 9: Srinagar – The Soul of the Valley (28th February 2027)

Mughal Gardens & Sacred Sites

Spend the day exploring the symmetric beauty of the Mughal Gardens (Shalimar & Nishat Bagh) and the historic Jamia Masjid.  

• Highlight: A late-afternoon Shikara ride on Dal Lake, visiting the floating vegetable markets and watching the sunset paint the Zabarwan Mountains in shades of gold.

 Day 10: Gulmarg (1st March 2027)

The High Note

A day trip to the “Meadow of Flowers.” Ascend the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest in the world, to witness the majestic Himalayan peaks blanketed in snow.  

• Highlight: A peaceful walk through the pine forests and a visit to the St. Mary’s Church, standing since the colonial era. Return to Srinagar for the night.

 Day 11: Sonmarg (2nd March 2027)

The Meadow of Gold

Drive to Sonmarg, where the Sindh River meanders through a landscape of glaciers and alpine flowers. The acoustics of this valley, surrounded by the Thajiwas Glacier, are unlike anywhere else on earth.  

• Highlight: A pony trek to the foot of the glacier for a tea session amidst the silence of the peaks.

 Day 12: Pahalgam (3rd March 2027)

The Shepherd’s Song

Our final full day takes us to the lush Lidder Valley. Visit Betaab Valley and the ancient Mamaleshwar Temple, a Shiva shrine dating back to the 12th century.

• Highlight: A farewell cultural evening featuring Kashmiri Sufiyana Mausiqi (classical music), celebrating the end of our journey through the sounds of the valley.

 Day 13: End of Tour (4th March 2027)

After a final breakfast overlooking the mountains, we depart for Srinagar airport for the return flight to Delhi, carrying the “Raaga” of the desert and the “Taala” of the mountains with us.

• The Pillars of Ranakpur: Explore the 15th-century Chaturmukha Jain Temple, a forest of 1,444 uniquely carved marble pillars. Experience the “impossible count” of these columns—no two are identical—and witness how the light shifts across the intricate stone lattices throughout the day.

• The Painted Havelis of Mandawa: Step into an “Open-Air Art Gallery” in the Shekhawati region. We delve into the grand mansions (Havelis) of wealthy silk and spice merchants, featuring vibrant frescoes that blend traditional Indian mythology with curious colonial influences, like depictions of early motorcars and gramophones.

• Mughal Symmetry in the Valley: Wander through Srinagar’s Shalimar and Nishat Bagh. These terraced gardens, designed with the Persian “Charbagh” layout, represent the Mughal vision of paradise, with cascading water channels and ancient Chinar trees that provide a rhythmic backdrop to the mountain views.

• Ancient Stones of Pahalgam: Visit the Mamaleshwar Temple, a 12th-century stone shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Set on the banks of the Lidder River, this temple is where, according to legend, Ganesha stood guard for Parvati, adding a deep mythological layer to the natural beauty of the valley.

 Musical & Cultural Immersion

• Kashmiri Sufiyana Mausiqi: An exclusive evening dedicated to the “Mystical Music” of the valley. Unlike mainland Indian classical music, Sufiyana Mausiqi uses the Santoor (the 100-stringed dulcimer) as its primary instrument. We will listen to choral ensembles performing Maqams (melodic modes) that echo the connection between Central Asia and the Himalayas.

•The Sound of Sitar at the Haveli: Step into a bygone era with an exclusive evening of Indian Classical Music held within the courtyard of a 17th-century Mandawa Haveli. As the sun sets, the resonance of the Sitar fills the frescoed walls, its intricate alaaps and rhythmic jhala echoing through the carved archways. This intimate “Baithak” style performance allows you to experience the Raagas in the very setting they were historically composed for—surrounded by candlelight and heritage.

• The Rural Rail Rhythms: A highlight of the Deogarh stay is the vintage 1930s meter-gauge train ride. As the train chugs through the Aravalli tunnels and over stone bridges, the rhythmic clatter of the tracks becomes a live percussion track to the changing landscape of village life.

• The Leopards of Jawai: Experience a rare Safari in the Granite Hills. In Jawai, leopards live in perfect harmony with the nomadic Rabari herdsmen. We track these majestic cats across ancient rock formations, witnessing a unique model of coexistence that feels more like a shared territory than a wild park.

• Twilight at Pushkar Lake: Witness the Maha Aarti at the Varaha Ghat. As the sun sets, hundreds of oil lamps are floated on the lake to the sound of temple bells and conch shells, creating a mesmerizing visual and auditory “Taala” (rhythm) that defines the spirit of Pushkar.

• Shikara Living on Dal Lake: More than just a boat ride, the Shikara journey is a window into a floating civilization. From the rhythmic rowing of the boatmen to the morning “call and response” of the floating vegetable market, you will experience the quiet, water-based pulse of Srinagar.

• The Gondola Ascent of Gulmarg: Rise above the clouds on one of the world’s highest cable cars. The transition from the green pine forests to the stark, silent white of the Apharwat Peak offers a moment of pure Himalayan grandeur.

• The Canyons of Sonmarg: Known as the “Meadow of Gold,” Sonmarg is where the Sindh River carves through crystalline glaciers. We take a quiet pony trek to the Thajiwas Glacier, where the only sound is the meltwater and the distant mountain wind.
